Chumisa Qawe welcomes Bok Women 2025 Rugby World Cup draw

Springbok Women centre Chumisa Qawe is excited that they will face newcomers Brazil in their 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup opening match.

World Rugby on Tuesday released the World Cup fixture list, and the Boks have been drawn in Pool D, alongside France, Italy and The Brazilians.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Qawe says the team is determined to fly the SA flag high.

"It is exciting, and I'm looking forward to playing against them. It will also be our first time playing against Brazil, which is exciting too," said Qawe.

"It's all about teamwork and working very hard as a team – we trust our coaches, and we are determined to win."

The 10th edition of the world showpiece will see 16 teams compete for the first time since 2002, with Brazil becoming the first-ever South American side to qualify for the tournament.

The Boks only won one of their three matches in the recently-concluded WXV2 tournament, but Qawe says she is pleased with her contribution in her first tournament.

"It was an amazing tournament, it was my first time playing in the WXV tour, since I couldn't participate last year due to an injury," she added.

"I am happy about my contribution, even though we did not win two of our games, and I'm very happy about my growth."
