Currie Cup: Cheetahs turn up the heat to overpower Western Province

The Cheetahs put in a rousing second-half performance to overpower Western Province 37-17 in their Currie Cup clash in Bloemfontein.

With the score at 10-10 at half time, the Cheetahs scored four tries after the interval and made it two wins from two following an opening round victory over the Pumas last week.

Hooker Vernon Paulo scored a brace of tries while Daniel Kasende, Munier Hartzenberg and Jeandre Rudolph crossed for the hosts who recorded a bonus-point.

The visitors opened the scoring with a well-executed try from inside centre Jean-Luc du Plessis in the third minute.

Jurie Matthee put over the conversion before the Cheetahs restored parity when winger Kasende latched on to a chip-kick from flyhalf Ethan Wentzel.

Wenzel and Matthee exchanged penalties as the teams went into the halftime break with scores level.

The home side though ran away with the encounter in the second half as Paulo went over twice at the death to ensure the bonus-point.
