Jones was unceremoniously dumped by England Rugby in 2022 after a rift formed between him and the players. He was then scooped up by his native Australia, but Jones' new broom swept so clean that many experienced players were left out of the Wallaby squad for the recent World Cup. It appeared to be their downfall, as the young side was dumped out before the quarterfinals for the first time in Australia's storied RWC history.
In the fallout, Jones vacated his position at the end of October and is now on the job hunt. Speaking to AFP, the wily veteran claimed he isn't short of options.
"Obviously I want to coach," said the World Cup-winning coach, who has three decades of coaching experience.
"I'm looking for a job now. If Japan did come knocking I'd definitely chat to them and I've had a couple of other countries approach me. There's a club in Europe interested, so I would expect by January I'll be working again.
"As long as I've got the energy to do it, I'll keep doing it [coaching]."
Despite - or perhaps because of - the tumultous last 12 months, Jones says he's leanred from the experience and emerged a better coach.
"As you know, in terms of experience and learning, the older you get, the better the coach you are. I am a much better coach than I was this time last year," continued the 63-year-old.
"I've learnt a lot from Australia. I've learned some things I shouldn't have done, some things I didn't do well and Ill be a better coach in the next job that I do."
