Last Chance Saloon: Lions revel in underdog status ahead of crunch match against Stormers

The Lions enter DHL Stadium as underdogs in their must-win United Rugby Championship clash with the Stormers, but that's just fine by them.

The Johannesburg franchise is sitting in ninth position in the URC table, a place in the playoffs just an arm's length away in their last dance. A win and four points could do it for the Lions, but ideally, they are chasing a bonus point win to make the top eight.

But standing in their way is a talented Stormers outfit, who boast a strong record at home in Cape Town. But wearing the underdog tag is something that, according to defence coach Jaques Fourie, fuels the team.

"Any team would prefer to be the underdog going into this game," the former Springbok centre told rugby365.com.

"Most of the people are writing you off and not giving you a chance. We all know that whenever your back is against the wall and you've got nothing to lose then you're a dangerous team.

"We don't mind going into this game as underdogs [but] the way that we've been playing the last three or four games, we've got a lot of confidence and hopefully we just continue with that confidence on Saturday."

"We know what is at stake, we have to get a win and a bonus point win will be even better. We have our plans and like all the other weeks, we have shown we have a good plan we just need to go implement it on Saturday."
