Sne Mdletshe aims to make final squad for the Rugby World Cup

Springbok Women left wing Sikholiwe ‘Sne’ Mdletshe says she aims to make the final cut in coach Louis Koen's World Cup squad.

The Bok Women just returned from Madagascar where they successfully defended their African Cup title, after three straight wins against Cameroon, Kenya and Madagascar - which gave them an automatic qualification to 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup in England.

Mdletshe says qualifying for the World Cup stamps the growth of women’s rugby in South Africa, and as Bok Women they look forward to making history.

"Really excited for the team and also excited for the management and also just women's rugby as a whole because it means that we're growing and we're moving towards something. Being involved in the Rugby World Cup gives so much exposure not only to the national team but also to the clubs  under that national team," Mdletshe said.

"Obviously I still need to make the team and all of that but I'm definitely looking forward to being part of all the alignment camps, being part of the camps to select that final squad that will go to the World Cup. If I may get into the team, looking forward to competing and smashing the goals that the management and the team has already set at this point already."

The former Proteas wing defence made her Bok Women debut in their 63-05 convincing victory over Kenya, during the African Championships in Madagascar. She says seeing her name during a jersey handover was a dream come true.

"My debut experience was great, I don't wanna lie. From the jersey presentation the previous night, it was just something that I, it's very hard to put into words. Getting that jersey, seeing that number and seeing your name next to that number is something that everyone dreams of and for me it was a dream come true."
