Stormers sweating over injuries to key players ahead of URC semi-final

Stormers coach John Dobson admits some of his key performers are nursing injuries ahead of this weekend's United Rugby Championship semi-final against Connacht.

Following Saturday's bruising clash against the Bulls, niggling injuries to Deon Fourie, Marvin Orie, Dan du Plessis, and Leolin Zas have Dobson a bit worried for the play-off clash in Cape Town.

Fourie had only just returned from a cheekbone injury and played for 50 minutes before being withdrawn with a hamstring injury.

Orie hurt his shoulder, and Du Plessis took a knock to the head, but played on. Zas was withdrawn as a precautionary measure.

Despite the niggling injuries, the Stormers are looking forward to their meeting with Connacht. Dobson is hopeful that the team can pull another 40,000-plus crowd in.

The Stormers coach says they can't afford to take Connacht lightly, pointing out that the Irish outfit won seven in a row during the recent URC season and how impressive they were in defeating Ulster in the quarter-finals.

"We can feel confident. But there is something there that is really worrying," Dobson said.

"As [Seabelo] Senatla says, they've got 'dog', or mongrel in them.

"They've won seven in a row. The way they fight, and their attack shape is really good. They don't go away. They will be tougher than we think."
