Agent speaks on Khanyisa Mayo’s R20-million transfer

SABC Sport can reveal Cape Town City are expected to pocket at least R20-million for the transfer of striker Khanyisa Mayo to CR Belouizdad.

As earlier reported by the public broadcaster, the Bafana Bafana international had been courted by suitors in North Africa with talks advancing rapidly between the Algeria club, City and agent Basia Michaels.

The move was officially confirmed on Saturday morning that Mayo had joined last season’s Algerian Premier League runners up.

“Yes, you would have already seen from the announcement that the deal is for three years. The negotiations of this transaction was between the two clubs and us as the agents finding a balance to ensure that all parties were happy,” Michaels told SABC Sport.

She was coy about revealing figures, although it’s believed CR Belouizdad came very close to chairman John Comitis’ evaluation of around R37-million for Mayo.

“It would be remiss of me to disclose the transfer fee based on how we know the market works, but it is a significant amount of money. We all know chairman Comitis had a figure in mind but I must take this opportunity to thank him for seeing the value in this transfer and considering what’s great for the players future,” Michaels added.

“The new trajectory of football allows us to do deals of this magnitude and create structures that ensure a happiness for all involved. MiR Sport, the agents on the other side, have been exceptionally professional and it is a great transaction all around.”
