This follows their 2-0 win over Comoros to clinch the top spot in Group C, maintaining a 100 percent winning record in the COSAFA U20 Championships, which also serves as qualifiers for the AFCON.
The goals from Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Siyabonga Mabena and Kaizer Chiefs’ Ofentse Kgosana were enough to see the team through.
Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka explains the cautious approach in this game, as they tried to avoid injuries, heading to the semifinals.
"We also felt like with this game, even if we can win 1-0, it will be fine for us. We were just worried about the approach of our opponents because it looked like they were more on our players and we thought of having injuries in the next game,” Mdaka said.
“So, that part frustrated us a bit, other than that we did not start as well as we used to in the two previous games, we started off slowly, not getting the reason how we wanted it."
Amajita will now meet Group B winners Angola in the last four tomorrow.
The winner of that game will qualify for the AFCON U20 tournament, which will be held next year.
The Angolans come to that game with an extra day’s rest than Amajita and have also played fewer games.
But Mdaka doesn’t seem bothered by their well-rested opponents.
"I will not speak of a disadvantage, as much as well to them because they might have rested enough. They played one and with us, we have played three, we are finishing today. They finished yesterday, we are not playing tomorrow, they are not playing tomorrow so it might be an advantage on their side but it couldn't be that effect to say, no we can't make it because of that. I think we have enough energy levels with the 20 that we have, we can be able to play to the end of the tournament," Mdaka added.
