Amatuks captain blames UWC loss for their ongoing slump

University of Pretoria captain, Ibanathi Msindo, says she attributes their recent slump to the defeat they suffered at the hands of fellow students, the University of the Western Cape (UWC) recently.

At the start of the season, Amatuks lost the first match to Durban Ladies but won their next seven games before falling to UWC at the beginning of May. Since then, they lost two and drew one. At some point this season they were top of the table but have since fallen to sixth place. They still have the hope of returning to their best.

''I think we lost the momentum there against UWC but we will come back stronger, the fact that we are losing doesn't mean we are having a bad season already.  We have new players, we are trying to gel them in, and we are trying on new combinations,'' said Msindo.

Msindo was speaking after her side slumped to another defeat – their heaviest since playing in the Hollywoodbets Super League. They lost 5-2 to the visiting Royal AM at the University of Pretoria Stadium on Saturday. The captain explains…

''We started very slow, I think that first goal disturbed us a bit because we were a bit disorganised at the back, we went down afterwards but we managed to have a good second half,'' added Msindo.

Despite the loss to Royal AM, Msindo says Amatuks will take some positives from the match. She adds that the defeats are not good, but they will have to build from that.
