AmaZulu set to sign Rowan Human in big coup

In what will be a big coup for AmaZulu, the Durban-based outfit are set to sign Bafana Bafana midfielder Rowan Human.

SABC Sport reported last week that Maritzburg United, who have been relegated to the lower division in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, would lose the player to one of the rivals in the DStv Premiership.

The information gathered by the public broadcaster while Human was still with the national team at the COSAFA Cup, revealed Usuthu had been joined by Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United and Cape Town Spurs in the race to get the player to put pen to paper – AmaZulu sources also advised they are in pole position.

It’s understood even though the other clubs showed a genuine interest and initiated some informal talks at some point with the parent club, AmaZulu are proving to be the final destination for the 22-year-old.

Human played a total of 31 matches for Maritzburg in their fight to avoid the drop under then coach Fadlu Davids, so it’s no surprise that he had several suitors eager to bring him on board when the Team of Choice officially lost the battle.

The former junior national side captain joined Maritzburg from the Israeli Premier League, where he was on the books of Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Before then, Human had been promoted to the Bidvest Wits senior team and singled out by Gavin Hunt as a future Bafana star, however the Clever Boys sold their topflight status in a shock move during the Covid pandemic.

Usuthu are building a new team under experienced tactician Pablo Franco Martin, who was appointed recently and tasked with making sure AmaZulu challenge for silverware as well as the league title.

It’s believed the club hierarchy see Human as a valuable asset in their lofty ambitions and the parties are at an advanced stage to conclude his move from Maritzburg.
