With two upcoming home fixtures against Espanyol and Alaves, manager Carlo Ancelotti is planning rotations, but not in goal.
Unless there's an injury to Thibaut Courtois or a significant change in strategy, the Belgian will continue to guard the net.
Since the pre-season, Lunin's opportunities have been limited. He played just half a game during the last friendly against Chelsea in the United States, after which Courtois has been an ever-present figure, starting all seven competitive matches this season across the Supercopa, La Liga, and Champions League.
The former Chelsea keeper has reasserted himself as the undisputed number one at Madrid, leaving little room for Lunin.
Last season, Lunin stepped up admirably during Courtois's injury layoff, raising hopes that this season might bring him more playing time. His recent contract extension until 2030 suggested a brighter future.
However, the reality is stark, he is once again overshadowed by a Courtois who recently delivered a stunning performance against Stuttgart.
With Courtois not participating in international duty, Lunin's chances appear even slimmer.
For now, he remains on the sidelines, waiting for an opportunity that may take time to materialise, with the Copa del Rey on the horizon as his potential lifeline.
