Ange Postecoglou thrilled by Tottenham's stunning win over Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur delivered a dominant performance to crush Southampton 5-0 at St Mary's Stadium on Sunday, ending a five-game winless streak in the Premier League.

James Maddison opened the scoring just 37 seconds into the match, latching onto a precise through ball from Djed Spence to fire past the Saints' goalkeeper.

Spurs maintained their relentless pressure, with Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski adding two more goals by the 15th minute, effectively sealing the game early.

Pape Matar Sarr extended the lead with a well-taken strike before Maddison netted his second goal of the day shortly before half-time, capping a scintillating first-half display from Ange Postecoglou's side.

The result marked only Spurs' second win in their last nine matches and lifted spirits within the squad. Postecoglou praised his players for their clinical finishing and high-energy performance.

"It was outstanding by the players," Postecoglou told TNT Sports. "We had a tough European game away on Thursday night.

"We had 10 first-team players unavailable, so for the lads to come out with that sort of energy and that sort of quality in the first half is just outstanding.

"We needed to come out quickly because we knew we were going to get tired today. We're asking a lot of some of our players and others haven't played at all.

"We've had great opportunities in the last three games in the first minute of the game. I said to them before the game 'Let's be ready.' It was a great endeavour by Djed and a great finish by Maddison."
