The injury occurred during Sunday's FA Cup third-round match against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.
The incident took place in the 40th minute when Jesus awkwardly clashed with Bruno Fernandes while tracking back to tackle him.
The Brazilian fell to the ground in visible discomfort and was immediately attended to by the Arsenal medical team.
Despite attempts to continue, he was ultimately carried off on a stretcher, holding his hands over his face in an emotional response to the setback.
Initial evaluations indicate a serious injury, and Jesus is scheduled to see a specialist on Tuesday to determine the full extent of the damage.
A confirmed ACL rupture could see him sidelined for nine months to a year, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the season and potentially a portion of the next campaign.
"No update, but it's not looking good," said Arteta.
"He was in quite a lot of pain, he had to come off on a stretcher and it's not looking good."
This is not the first time the 26-year-old has faced knee issues, having damaged his right knee during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
However, Arsenal confirmed this latest injury does not relate to the previous one.
