Augsburg appoint Jess Thorup as new head coach

After the departure of Enrico Maaßen, Augsburg have made a decision about his successor as head coach.

52-year-old Jess Thorup, who has already worked successfully at FC Midtjylland, KAA Gent, FC Copenhagen as well as the Denmark U20 and U21 national teams, has signed a contract with FCA until 30th June 2025.

"We are pleased that in Jess we have managed to sign a top coach and football man for FCA, who has already worked as a head coach at the highest level and has gained a lot of experience on both a national and international level.

Jess has proven at his previous clubs that he can both develop players as well as lead teams to success, said FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic.

"We are really pleased that Jess Thorup sees his future here.

"We are convinced that in him we have found an experienced and renowned head coach, who can stabilise the team in the short term and is someone who we will be successful together with. We quickly noticed in conversations with him that Jess is very well informed and couldn™t wait to get to work in Augsburg and in the Bundesliga."

"I had very constructive and goal-oriented conversations with those at the club and I immediately felt that FCA was the right next step for me. The club and the team have a lot of potential and it™s really a pleasure for me to work in the Bundesliga and for us together to bring FC Augsburg forward."
