Austin Eguavoen denies stepping down as Super Eagles coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have dismissed rumours surrounding Austin Eguavoen's departure as the Super Eagles' interim coach.

Despite recent reports suggesting that Eguavoen had stepped down after leading the team through their first two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the NFF clarified that he remains in his position.

Eguavoen, who also serves as the NFF's technical director, was appointed to oversee the Super Eagles' early qualifying campaign against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The reports of his exit surfaced shortly after the second match, sparking speculation about his future with the national team.

NFF director of communications, Ademola Olajire, quickly put an end to the rumours, stating, "Eguavoen will remain with the Super Eagles until the federation takes another decision."

Eguavoen himself addressed the situation, expressing concern over the misinformation. "It's unfortunate that people are spreading false stories. I'm still in charge and continue as the technical director," he explained.

He also added that discussions with the NFF about future games would take place after the qualifiers, but no final decision had been made.

He emphasised, "At the moment, I'm focused on my duties, and any further updates will come after discussions with the federation."
