Ballon d'Or nominee Ademola Lookman just 'trying to improve'

Ademola Lookman, 26, has been nominated for the prestigious Ballon d'Or, becoming the eighth Nigerian footballer to achieve this honour.

The Super Eagles and Atalanta forward remains unfazed by the recognition, stating his focus is on "continuing with what got him there."

Last season, Lookman played a pivotal role in Atalanta's UEFA Europa League victory and their run to the Coppa Italia final.

On the international stage, he helped Nigeria reach the AFCON 2023 final, contributing three goals in the tournament.

This season, Lookman has carried on his impressive form, scoring three goals and providing two assists in six games.

"I don't know if people's perception of me has changed, but I just try to improve and become stronger everyday," said Lookman, as quoted by The Guardian.

"This is the most important thing for me. I try to work hard on a daily basis for my character and my goals and I've remained the same person as before.

"We have a very strong group of attackers, great players with different characteristics.

"Each one wants to play to show their qualities. Being able to take the field with players like this is wonderful for me. They help me become better."

His latest standout performance came in Atalanta's 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League, where he scored, provided an assist, and was awarded man of the match before being substituted on the hour mark.
