Initially seen as a gradual shift in personnel, the 19-year-old quickly established himself as a starter, leaving veteran Jordi Alba with no way back into the team. With Alba's departure, all eyes are now on Balde to see if he can maintain his exceptional standards.
According to SPORT, Barcelona president Joan Laporta wants to secure Balde's contract renewal before the upcoming La Liga season kicks off.
The left-back's current contract expires next year, making the renewal a top priority. Balde has already agreed to the terms of the new deal, with only the formalities remaining, and he will sign a four-year extension, binding him to Spotify Camp Nou until 2027.
The new contract includes a staggering ¬1 billion release clause, reflecting his rising status, and a substantial increase in wages.
The renewal process progressed seamlessly, with no doubts or considerations from either party. Balde was reportedly solely focused on staying with Barcelona, and the club are confident in finalizing his registration before the season commences.
Despite suffering a severe ankle injury in Barcelona's penultimate match last season, Balde has made a full recovery and is eager to embark on the new campaign as the club's first-choice left-back.
His impressive performances have earned him a nomination for the prestigious Golden Boy award, further cementing his status as a rising star in football.
