Barcelona's summer shake-up as transfer decisions loom

FC Barcelona are gearing up for a challenging summer, with transfer decisions looming large on the horizon.

Barca Studios' potential sale adds a layer of complexity, making it imperative to balance the books by offloading assets. According to a report by Sport, the primary objective is clear: secure the continuity of Joao Cancelo or another top-tier fullback, bring in a high-calibre defensive midfielder, and snag a winger capable of one-on-one brilliance.

The realization that most current players are reluctant to depart has prompted the sporting director, Deco, to contemplate a shake-up in the overcrowded central defence position. While strategic players remain untouchable, plans are underway to part ways with at least two players to boost the coffers. The future investments of Pau Cubarsi and Ronald Araujo, both set to receive contract extension offers, signal the club's faith in them.

However, the spotlight is on other defenders: Inigo Martinez, Eric Garcia, Clement Lenglet, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and the promising Chadi Riad, who the club contemplate reacquiring after an outstanding season at Betis. According to Deco, Riad is a present-day talent, ready to vie for a spot in Barcelona's starting eleven.

The challenge lies in convincing players like Christensen, who has expressed his commitment to Barca, and Kounde, desiring to continue, though preferably in his natural central position. Inigo Martinez intends to honour his remaining two-year contract, requiring re-registration by June 30. Eric Garcia seems the most likely to attract offers, potentially becoming Girona's property with mutually beneficial terms.

In dire scenarios, Barca acknowledge the Premier League's interest in Chadi Riad, hinting at a profitable sale, despite the intention to reintegrate him into the team. Lenglet, however, is deemed a departure necessity due to his high wage demands.

The stakes are high, and significant offers may pour in, given the interest shown by Manchester United and Chelsea in Kounde, and the considerable market for Christensen. The success of Deco's central defender sales will heavily influence the club's summer planning, as sacrifices become imperative for survival.
