The 'Werkself' have dominated the league, with six players earning spots in the Bundesliga 'team of the season': Jonathan Tah, Victor Boniface, Jeremie Frimpong, Alejandro Grimaldo, Florian Wirtz and Granit Xhaka.
The latest accolade goes to Florian Wirtz, who has been named the Bundesliga MVP (Most Valuable Player) for his outstanding contributions to Leverkusen's historic title-winning campaign.
Wirtz's statistics this season are a testament to his excellence. After recovering from a cruciate ligament injury, he ended the league with 11 goals, second only to Boniface's 14 in the Leverkusen squad, and provided 12 assists, surpassed only by Grimaldo.
These numbers highlight his all-around influence on the pitch, setting personal records for both goals and assists.
The young midfielder's impact was recognised throughout the season, being named Player of the Month three times â- in October, December, and February. His performances have not only been crucial for Leverkusen's success but also point towards a bright future for German football, with Wirtz expected to be a key player for Germany in Euro 2024.
Wirtz and Leverkusen are still in contention for more silverware this season, with the Europa League and the DFB-Pokal in their sights.
As Leverkusen continue their pursuit of further glory, Wirtz remains a pivotal figure, driving the team forward with his creativity and vision.
As the season draws to a close, Leverkusen's unbeaten run and Wirtz's individual brilliance will be remembered as a defining chapter in the club's history. With potential triumphs still on the horizon, Leverkusen and Wirtz are set to leave an indelible mark on German football.
