Bayern Munich held in Leipzig as the Bundesliga returns

Bayern Munich drew away at RB Leipzig as the Bundesliga returned to action.

Bayern forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting opened the scoring in the 37th minute after glancing the ball past the keeper from close range.

Leipzig responded early in the second-half with Marcel Halstenberg grabbing the equaliser for the hosts.

Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann was content with the result, saying: "It was an interesting game for all the viewers.

"I think the point works a little bit better for us however there's things we could've improved on. There's certainly things we did well, and I think for the first game in two months it was good."

The result moves Bayern five-points clear at the top of the table, with Leipzig six points behind in third.

One team which can capitalise on Friday's draw are second-placed Freiburg. Victory over Wolfsburg on Saturday would take Christian Streich's men within two points of the reigning champions.

Freiburg have emerged as unlikely title contenders following a stellar run in the first half of the campaign.

The Breisgau Brazilians have already picked up a club-record 30 points from their opening 15 games in the Bundesliga.

Streich's men also boast the second-best defence in the competition having conceded just 17 goals.

However, picking up a win over Wolfsburg is easier said than done. The Wolves won their last four league outings and are unbeaten in nine games across all competitions.
