Bayern Munich set to appoint Nils Schmadtke as new chief scout

Bayern Munich are poised to welcome Nils Schmadtke as their new chief scout, succeeding Markus Pilawa, with whom the club have parted ways.

Schmadtke will sign a two-year contract and was the primary choice of Director of Sport Max Eberl, who advocated for his recruitment.

A Dusseldorf native, Schmadtke has a robust scouting background, having served as a scout for both 1. FC Koln and Borussia Monchengladbach before taking on the head of scouting role at Wolfsburg.

Most recently, Schmadtke was the Sporting Director at Gladbach, where he spent a year before leaving this past summer. Reports suggest he departed due to diminishing influence in decision-making while working alongside Roland Virkus, Eberl's successor at Borussia Park.

Reflecting on his decision to leave, Schmadtke remarked: "I have been to Borussia for the third time and do not want to miss any of these experiences. The bottom line, however, is that it did not fit 100 percent for both sides in this constellation. Therefore, a separation is the best decision for everyone."

Notably, Nils is the son of Jorg Schmadtke, who previously served as interim sporting director at Liverpool before the club appointed Richard Hughes.
