Negotiations between Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen have reached a critical juncture, with several factors complicating the transfer.
Tah, a highly regarded centre-back for Bayer Leverkusen, has been on Bayern's radar for some time. Personal terms between the player and Bayern were already agreed upon, indicating strong mutual interest.
However, Bayer Leverkusen's 40 million euros valuation of Tah has proven a significant stumbling block for Bayern, who currently lack the funds to finalise the deal.
Leverkusen showed some willingness to negotiate, suggesting they would entertain an offer around 30 million euros.
Bayern's last proposal, a 25 million euros package consisting of 20 million euros upfront and 5 million euros in future add-ons, was submitted last month but promptly rejected by Leverkusen in June. Since then, Bayern have not made an improved bid for Tah.
The crux of the issue lies in Bayern's unsuccessful attempts to sell Matthijs de Ligt. A transfer for Tah was dependent on Bayern offloading de Ligt to generate the required funds.
Initial discussions with Manchester United regarding de Ligt appeared promising but fell through as Manchester United refused to meet Bayern's 50 million euros valuation for the Dutch defender.
Compounding Bayern's troubles, Hiroki Ito recently broke his foot during a pre-season friendly against FC Duren, adding to their defensive woes.
Despite these setbacks, there is a growing sentiment that de Ligt may remain with Bayern this summer, further diminishing the likelihood of completing Tah's transfer.
