Betway Premiership wrap: SuperSport, Stellenbosch share the spoils in thrilling game

SuperSport United and Stellenbosch played out an engaging 1-1 draw in their latest league clash, with both sides showcasing moments of brilliance and missed opportunities.

The match started brightly for Stellenbosch, who broke the deadlock in the 17th minute. Jayden Adams, expertly assisted by Fawaaz Basadien's corner kick, outpaced Thakasani Mbanjwa and Pogiso Sanoka to slot the ball home.

However, Stellenbosch's early joy was short-lived as SuperSport United found their equaliser just 13 minutes later. Vincent Pule delivered a precise cross, which Tashreeq Morris capitalised on, heading the ball past the keeper in the 30th minute.

SuperSport United created more chances throughout the match but struggled to convert them. In the 27th minute, Morris missed a free header, while Bradley Grobler failed to connect with a skidding ball at the back post.

Moments later, Grobler squandered another close-range opportunity. Stellenbosch's Ashley Cupido came close in a one-on-one situation, only to be denied by a sharp save from Mbanjwa.

As the game progressed, SuperSport's Ghamapni Lungu and substitutes Keanin Ayer and Bilal Baloyi tried to break the deadlock but to no avail.

Rise and Shine narrow gap on Pirates after hard-fought Arrows stalemate

Polokwane City continued their good form as they earned a 0-0 draw against Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday.

The valuable point in Mpumalanga leaves Rise and Shine just three points behind second-placed Orlando Pirates and five points clear of Stellenbosch in fourth. Arrows dropped to seventh place.

Both teams created early chances, with Wayde Jooste missing a header for Arrows and Cole Alexander testing Ismail Watenga with a low strike from range. The game remained evenly contested as Polokwane's Oswin Appollis and Arrows' Nduduzo Sibiya and Knox Mutizwa looked to break the deadlock.

Ryan Moon missed a golden opportunity for Arrows just before half-time, sending his shot across the face of goal after a well-crafted build-up.

Both sides continued to press after the break, with Velemseni Ndwandwe coming close for Arrows from a free-kick and Appollis failing to capitalize on a promising set-piece for City, but the two teams ultimately had to settle for a draw after failing to break the deadlock.

Sekhukhune United triumph over Marumo Gallants in rainy showdown

Sekhukhune United capped off the year with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants at the rain-soaked Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday.

In a game dominated by challenging conditions, Sekhukhune held the upper hand in the first half, enjoying most of the possession. However, they struggled to capitalise on their dominance.

Keletso Makgalwa's inviting cross in the 4th minute narrowly missed Andy Boyeli, and Boyeli's poorly executed free-kick in the 24th minute was easily cleared by Gallants' defence.

The deadlock was broken in the 67th minute after a double substitution by Sekhukhune on 65 minutes. Linda Mntambo, one of the substitutes, made an immediate impact by setting up Makgalwa, who netted the decisive goal - his second of the season.

Despite introducing three substitutes in the second half, including Thapelo Mokobodi and Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Gallants failed to find an equaliser.

Their goalkeeper, Washington Arubi, who had struggled in a prior match against the Buccaneers, was not thoroughly tested this time around.
