Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Gio Reyna ruled out for 'a few weeks'

Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Gio Reyna has been ruled out for "a few weeks" after sustaining a groin injury while on international duty.

Reyna faced another setback last week, being forced to withdraw from the United States roster due to a left groin strain. The 21-year-old is now back with Dortmund and will need to spend some time on the sidelines.

While the exact duration of Reyna's recovery remains uncertain, Nuri Sahin anticipates that the injury will take "a few weeks" to heal. Despite this, Sahin remains optimistic about the young playmaker's future contributions once he returns to full fitness.

"He returned quite disheartened," Sahin noted. "He was feeling that his opportunity was getting closer. I assured him that we'll be patient and wait for his recovery. Although it will take a few weeks, we hope he will resume his positive trajectory upon his return."

Last season was challenging for Reyna, who struggled for playing time at Die Schwarzgelben and faced difficulties during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest. There were speculations about a possible departure from BVB this summer, but no transfer materialized.

The club's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, recently expressed confidence in the American's potential to become a key player for the team. However, he has made just one brief substitute appearance this season.

With this latest injury setback, Reyna will be eager to regain full fitness and secure a spot in the starting lineup.
