Schlotterbeck's injury cast a shadow over the match, with head coach Nuri Sahin, sporting director Sebastian Kehl, and captain Emre Can expressing grave concern. "The sight was terrible," Sahin admitted in the post-match press conference.
"We have to deal with this shock. If you look at the images, it doesn't look good. A sleepless night awaits."
Kehl echoed Sahin's concerns, stating, "His foot is thickly bandaged. We'll await the diagnosis tomorrow." Can added, "He was in a lot of pain on the pitch. I hope it's not too bad."
The severity of the injury could leave Dortmund without their central defender for an extended period.
On a brighter note, 18-year-old Belgian international Julien Duranville shone in his first start of the season. Duranville, who had made five substitute appearances before this game, caught the eye with a dynamic performance.
"He got off to a very good start and made a difference with his first notable action," Kehl said, referencing Duranville's setup of Marcel Sabitzer in the 18th minute. "He played with the ease and freshness we had hoped for."
Kehl also highlighted Duranville's attitude: "He was very happy the coach trusted him. He did well, and we want to take the next steps with him in the winter. Hopefully, today's game boosts his confidence."
Despite a spirited second-half showing, Dortmund fell short of earning a point. Kehl reflected, "The team played with plenty of passion, courage, and heart. A draw would have been fair, but that's how football goes sometimes."
While Dortmund fans await updates on Schlotterbeck, Duranville's promising display offered a glimpse of hope for the future.
