Borussia Dortmund's Niclas Fullkrug: We are moving in the right direction

Borussia Dortmund's Niclas Füllkrug is delighted that the side are "moving in the right direction" after the 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Tuesday evening.

Füllkrug gave Borussia the lead in the 26th minute. After the break, Newcastle increased the number of hits: a game that had previously been dominated by BVB turned into an open exchange of blows. Julian Brandt completed a counterattack a good ten minutes before the end to make it 2-0 and put BvB on the brink of qualification for the Champions League knockout stages.

After the win against Newcastle, Füllkrug spoke in a TV interview.

"The first duels were on our side, and that meant we got into the game very well, had a high intensity in counter-pressing and took advantage of the decisive situations. The counterattack in which Jule decides to go it alone," he said.

"‹‹These are the crucial scenes! He takes the chance and kills the game. These are the scenes that we occasionally miss elsewhere. We knew Newcastle really wanted to win the game. We could have used the dangerous spaces even better. But we are moving in a positive direction. As a team, we have situations in which we have room for improvement.

"But today we played against a top team, which was a great reaction after Saturday. The goal shows how awake we were. We switch immediately and earn the goal. With hard work we have put ourselves in a great position and it is now in our hands. That's the most important."
