BILD journalist Christian Falk reveals that BVB have expressed concrete interest in Gallagher, citing his versatility and ability to play in multiple positions, similar to Bellingham.
"The interest in Conor Gallagher has been very evident for months now. Dortmund acknowledges the need for a player like Jude Bellingham, not only in terms of style but also in terms of playing as a 6, 8, or 10. Gallagher possesses these qualities," stated Falk in his latest column for CaughtOffside.
Dortmund seems financially equipped for the move, given the funds from Bellingham's transfer and Gallagher's age of 23, making him a viable long-term investment. Falk believes that the move is highly plausible for Dortmund.
"The contract is until 2025, so they can pay him. They have the money from the Bellingham transfer and they also see - given he's 23 years of age - he's not too old to be an investment. So this is very realistic for Dortmund."
Although Gallagher's opportunities were limited during the 2022/23 season, he showcased his capabilities towards the latter stages of the campaign. With Chelsea open to offloading talent this summer, Dortmund may have a genuine chance of securing the services of the talented 23-year-old midfielder.
Gallagher's statistics continue to impress, despite his recent stagnation in the Premier League. FB Ref considers him the second-most similar player to Bellingham, reinforcing the validity of Dortmund's interest.
Additionally, Gallagher excels in offensive contributions, ranking in the 97th percentile for touches in the opposing penalty box and the 81st percentile for progressive carries.
