The Chilli Boys host Truter’s Sekhukhune United in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup on Sunday having installed Siyabulela Gwambi to replace Kurt Lentjies all in an attempt to save their top-flight status.
Truter himself is in his third job since 2021 and hoping Babina Noko allow him more time than his previous employers Swallows and AmaZulu.
"For coaches, preparing and wanting to build a philosophy, build an identity with the club, and ultimately contribute to Bafana. It's a bit difficult with having so little time to be a bit comfortable or a bit focused on a three-year plan without being worried about getting fired in the next three games," he said.
Gwambi is Chippa’s third coaching change this season alone, and there’s a record of the musical chairs enforced by chairman Siviwe Mpengesi over the years.
Truter says it’s not good for the game.
"That's relationships, that's playing styles, that's identity, atmosphere, and the culture at the club. In South Africa, the coaching merry-go-round is not good for our football. Players have to adapt very quickly. Sometimes, it's result driven and you can't help talented players to develop, you have to focus on getting the next result and that's about it," he added.
While at Swallows between 2019 and 2021, the Dube Birds gained promotion back to the Premier League under Truter.
But he was sacked as soon as there were hurdles.
"Yes, we are in a result-driven industry but the supporters and owners want winning football, attractive football. Some of us were fired because we are not playing the most attractive brand of football yet getting results. Some of us are playing really good football but the results are not forthcoming. So, it's a tricky situation that we as coaches find ourselves in," Truter concluded.
