Brandon Truter resigns as head coach of AmaZulu

The latest coming out of the Usuthu camp has been verified by his agent, Basia Michaels of QT Sports, following a lengthy meeting with management on Thursday and it is understood the coach had been contemplating this decision for some time now.

“We had a meeting and the coach has opted to resign. He is resigning because he has personal issues and they are quite clearly affecting his day-to-day job,” Michaels told SABC Sport when asked to elaborate.

Truter was appointed interim AmaZulu coach in March after Benni McCarthy was sacked because of a string of poor results, and the former Swallows FC mentor proved himself with seven matches remaining in the 2021/22 season to earn a two-year contract.

However, the relationship now officially comes to an end and Usuthu will begin their search for Truter’s replacement.

The club dropped out of the DStv Premiership top eight last night following a narrow 1-0 defeat against crosstown rivals Richards Bay, adding to their woes.

Michaels conceded that results also played a role in the coach’s decision to tender his resignation.

“Yes, the results haven’t fallen our way, hence the coach has also decided it’s best to step aside. He thought he could continue to balance work and personal matters, but you can see it is affecting his job,” she added.

“We held a meeting with the club and coach Brandon offered to walk away and allow someone else to take the vision forward. He wishes AmaZulu well and believes they have a strong team to compete this year.”
