The Rockets signed the ex-Kaizer Chiefs forward a year ago, but have now parted ways just days before their opening Betway Premiership fixture away to Richards Bay on Sunday afternoon.
Nurkovic is hoping to stay in the Premier Soccer League, but there has been no mention of a possible suitor just yet.
“It is true that the we have parted ways with Samir Nurkovic. It’s a decision that was taken after careful consideration by both the club and Samir,” Sukazi confirmed to the public broadcaster.
“Both parties felt that their strategic goals have taken a different turn, such that it would be to their best possible interest to part ways now rather than later, when his contract ends at the end of the season.
"Samir is a top professional who has served us with distinction. We wish him well in his future endeavours.”
Nurkovic enjoyed some decent numbers at Galaxy in the lone season he spent with the club under coach Sead Ramovic – a fellow Serbian.
The striker managed 10 goals in 29 matches, helping The Rockets finish in sixth place on the log table – their highest-ever ranking in the topflight.
Nurkovic still has another outstanding matter with Royal AM, who owe the player R12 million for terminating his contract prematurely two years ago.
That case is still pending at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
