CAF CL group stage debutants AS Maniema playing without fear

AS Maniema Union coach Papy Kimoto says playing with little to no pressure in the CAF Champions League makes them a dark horse.

He was speaking after the DR Congo outfit held Mamelodi Sundowns to a goalless draw at Loftus Stadium in their first ever fixture in the group stage of the continental competition on Tuesday night.

Kimoto praised his players for leaving Tshwane with a crucial point.

''I'm satisfied with the performance of the team, the players suffered together and played together. We have the opportunity now, we are going to play two games at home. If we win the two games, we might be first in the group. We have nothing to lose and we're playing without pressure. Today the players gave it all,'' said Kimoto.

The Maniema tactician still believes Sundowns are favourites to finish top of the group that includes two Morocco teams in Raja Casablanca and AS FAR.

''We are the so called small and we're playing without pressure. Sundowns is a very good team and they still have the chance to top the group, I don't believe the two other teams will be getting away with one point here. But we, at some point we made them doubt, we could have scored but we're happy with the one. But they are still the favourites to top the group - Sundowns,'' added Kimoto.

Maniema stunned Petro de Luanda of Angola to make it to the group stages and they proved their mettle at Loftus.

However, Kimoto is of the opinion that Raja and AS FAR will find it difficult to follow in their footsteps when they visit South Africa.

Kimoto concluded by arguing there were moments where Maniema could have sneaked in a goal that would have caused an upset.

''We could have stolen the game by killing the two clear cut occasions, but overall I am satisfied with 0-0 because they had the position,'' he expressed.
