Speaking to Moroccan media shortly after the CAF event to honour Rwanda President Paul Kagame and King Mohammed VI of Morocco in Kigali last night, Motsepe commented on these new developments.
Morocco, who are bidding to become only the second African country after South Africa to stage the men’s football world cup, confirmed last night their intention of joining Spain and Portugal’s bid for the centenary event.
"We will engage as the leadership of CAF and discuss, to make sure that we are not just united and we don't have our votes separated. Because then it's going to make it difficult for us to succeed. I'm confident that we will come together and make sure that we succeed and an African nation indeed is part of hosting the World Cup," he said.
Motsepe also used the opportunity to try and motivate other heads of state around the continent to rally behind football, especially when it comes to improving infrastructure.
"In a humble way, the 54 nations in Africa want to express our gratitude and our appreciation to two outstanding heads of state for their passion, for their commitment, for their support for football in their countries but also for their support, passion and commitment for football on the African continent. This ceremony today is acknowledgement and a recognition for the significant manner in which they've contributed to the development and growth of African football," he added.
