Cape Town City and Magesi play out to drab Premiership draw

Solid defence and unforced errors were the words of the day as Cape Town City and Magesi FC played out to a 0-0 draw in a Premiership encounter that produced very few meaningful opportunities.

City stalwart Thamsanqa Mkhize made his 250th appearance for the club and the defender once again played his part as the homeside kept a clean sheet and were very solid at the back all afternoon.

Unfortunately for City, the forward players were less effective as Magesi's defenders also played well.

Things were not made easier by poor pitch conditions and rainy weather that made fluid passing movements almost impossible.

Darwin Gonzalez had the best chance of the first half for the home side after he was played in by a beautiful ball from Mkhize, but was slashed his shot wide.

Haashim Domingo also came close a few minutes later but was denied by a fine save.

Aside from being solid on defence, Mkhize was a threat on attack all game as well and played a lovely cross into Tshegofatso Nyama just after half time, but the Nyama was denied a wonderful goal by the woodwork.

While Magesi struggled to create much of their own going forward, besides the chances mentioned, they were largely able to keep the home side at bay and neither side was ultimately able to break the deadlock.
