Muhsin Ertugral makes winning return as Cape Town City claim Kaizer Chiefs scalp

Muhsin Ertugral guided Cape Town City to a 1-0 Betway Premiership win over Kaizer Chiefs in his first game in charge on Sunday.

Darwin Gonzalez scored the only goal of the game at the Cape Town Stadium after 51 minutes.

It was a City's fourth win after 11 games to see them end the evening in 11th place with 14 points as Amakhosi stayed on 15 points, in seventh spot on the standings.

Chiefs had started well with Ashley Du Preez first with a chance on target that was calmly collected by City stopper Darren Keet.

Darwin fired narrowly wide as City attacked at the other end ahead of a Yusuf Maart curling effort that ultimately drifted just off target.

Christian Saile was back in the side and produced a sublime run only to see his goal bound shot well blocked.

The best chance in the first half fell to Mduduzi Shabalala, who fired in a super shot that produced a strong save from Keet at his near post.

The action remained end-to-end for the remainder of the opening period, but it was the home team who were the livelier after the break.

Gonzalez and Thabo Nodada were getting into good positions and the former made the most of a chance on the edge of the area that he fired home.

There was an immediate reaction from Amakhosi and Nathan Fasika and Keet combined well to deny Shabalala and Wandile Duba from creating an opening.

Keet then had to be alert to get his hands to a Mfundo Vilakazi free-kick with the clock winding down, while Bradley Cross got a vital touch to a City corner to stop the ball from sneaking in at the near post and closing out this tie.

There were a number of half-chances for both sides as Chiefs pressed in vain for an equaliser, but City held firm to collect all three points and leave Chiefs with just four wins this campaign so far.
