Cape Town City edge out Polokwane in hard-fought Betway Premiership game

Cape Town City secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Polokwane City in a tightly contested Betway Premiership match at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.

The first half saw both teams struggling to find rhythm, with Cape Town City slightly edging possession but unable to penetrate Polokwane City's resilient defence.

Polokwane's key players, Ovidy Karuru and Wiseman Maluleke, played pivotal roles in disrupting the hosts' attempts to dominate.

A series of fouls from both sides further broke the game's flow.

The decisive moment came in the 56th minute, thanks to a tactical adjustment by Cape Town City manager Eric Tinkler.

Thamsanqa Mkhize capitalised on a well-executed set-piece, breaking the deadlock with a clinical finish.

Despite mounting late efforts, Polokwane City couldn't find an equaliser as Cape Town City displayed disciplined defending.

The visitors showed determination but fell short of breaching the home side's well-organised backline.

The result boosts Cape Town City's campaign, as they climb higher in the league standings and gain momentum for the season.

Polokwane City, still in contention near the top of the table, will look to regroup and bounce back in their next fixture.
