CT Spurs' Vasili Manousakis not ruling out more exits in this window

Cape Town Spurs assistant coach Vasili Manousakis is not ruling out the possibility of more players leaving the club before the transfer window closes next month, should their suitors meet the club's evaluation.

Manousakis’ comments come just after Spurs’ CEO Alexis Efstathiou was reported to have said they have closed shop now and will be concentrating on the new Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

SABC Sport broke the story of Spurs turning down Kaizer Chiefs’ offer for silky winger Asanele Velebhayi and Stellenbosch FC’s pursuit of Spurs striker Ashley Cupido.

"Open, they have the certain valuations in their minds, they've developed a player for many, many years, you know there's a certain price and if somebody is willing to pay the price for the diamonds, I think they said then everything is for sale," Manousakis said.

"Again, we wanna keep our best players but we cannot stop them so I'm sure between now and the end of the season, there'll be one or two more offers coming in and we want the best for the club, we want the best for the players, so let's see.

"A possibility [that before the window closes, Spurs may sell]. So, I cannot say nobody is going anywhere because that is not how it is. So, yeah, that is a possibility."

SABC Sport understands that Chiefs had put in an initial offer of R4million for Velebhayi (21), who has been at Spurs for more than 10 years and is now approaching 100 matches at the club in the pro ranks.

But with still two more years on his contract, and having recently played for Bafana Bafana, the Urban Warriors are understood to be asking for double figures for his services. Stellies have also courted captain Chumani Butsaka but have not yet met their neighbour’s asking price.

Manousakis is happy to still have the core of his team for now.

"Yeah, you want to always as coaches keep your best players but you know when the right offers come along, that's the model of the club, they develop players and sell them. So, of course, the window is still open for quite a while but you want to keep the nucleus of your players,” the coach explained.

“Seven of these players that started today started the last game against Kaizer Chiefs. So, the nucleus is there and that does help with the foundations to build and to go forward."
