Carlo Ancelotti: Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe was not at his best

Real Madrid secured a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, but all eyes were on Kylian Mbappe after a subdued performance.

Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz scored the crucial goals for Los Blancos, giving them the edge ahead of the second leg.

However, Mbappe, who has been in outstanding form since his high-profile free transfer last summer, struggled to make an impact.

The French forward has been a key player for Real Madrid, netting 28 goals in 41 appearances, including a stunning hat-trick against Manchester City in the play-off round last month.

But against Atletico, he appeared off the pace and frustrated. At full-time, he walked straight off the pitch without acknowledging the fans or his teammates, fuelling speculation about his mood.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti addressed the situation in his post-match press conference, offering a measured response.

"Mbappe wasn't at his best but he still did his job because it's not easy to play against Atletico's defence."
