Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has explained how the Chilli Boys downed Kaizer Chiefs in front of their own fans - winning their DStv Premiership clash 2-1 at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The Chilli Boys came from behind after Siyabonga Ngezana had put the Glamour Boys in the lead, but Siphelele Luthuli cancelled out the opener before Ronald Pfumbidzai got a late winner for the visitors.

Mammila says their tactical plan worked as anticipated.

"I knew from day one that it's going to be a difficult match, especially [given] Chiefs' form - three [wins] out of three, a strong attack and individual brilliance," said Mammila after the match.

"But one thing, for sure, they've got weak points - their classy players don't like chasing, so I told my players, 'Firstly, let's control the tempo of the game. Let's play rondo with them so that we take the steam out of them.'

"We did that in the first five minutes, so they couldn't even mark us, we were free. Once we're free, we can do what we want, and that's what we did.

"Unfortunately, we did not score in the first half. Should we have scored in the first half, we would have talked [about] something else, because we were going to gain more momentum and get more goals.

"But nevertheless, the plan worked and we're happy. We move on from this game and we're looking [forward] to another game."
