Despite being reduced to 10 men before halftime, Gallants held firm to share the spoils with the Eastern Cape side.
The encounter was action-packed from the start, with both teams creating numerous chances. Gallants struck first in the 15th minute after Chippa captain Justice Chabalala fouled Daniel Msendami in the box. Edgar Manaka confidently converted the resulting penalty, giving the visitors an early lead.
Chippa responded with determination, and their efforts paid off in the 22nd minute when Eva Nga, a former Orlando Pirates striker, equalised with a well-taken goal. Chabalala made amends for his earlier error by scoring from close range in the 42nd minute to put the hosts ahead.
Just before halftime, Gallants were dealt a blow as Masindi Nematjela received his second yellow card for a reckless challenge, leaving the visitors with 10 men.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Gallants remained defiant. Their persistence was rewarded in the 54th minute when Gabadinho Mhango headed in the equaliser, much to the frustration of the home crowd.
Chippa pushed hard for a winner, creating several opportunities, but Gallants' defence held firm to deny the Chilli Boys a decisive goal.
The result leaves both teams tied on 15 points, with Chippa United in 12th place and Marumo Gallants in 13th due to goal difference. Both sides remain in the relegation battle, needing to improve their form to climb the league standings.
The Eastern Cape based club will be aiming for a better result in their next outing as they seek to distance themselves from the drop zone, while Gallants will look to build on this spirited performance as they fight for survival in the Betway Premiership.
The two teams will now turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup, with Gallants taking on Motsepe Foundation Championship side Pretoria Callies on 24 January, while Chippa will battle it out with Golden Arrows the following day in the last 32 round of the competition.
