Christian Norgaard: Everton's situation should not distract Brentford

Brentford skipper Christian Norgaard doesn't want point deductions to decide the Premier League relegation battle.

The Bees were plunged deeper into the relegation battle after Everton's points deduction for breaking profit and sustainability rules was reduced from 10 to six.

Thomas Frank's side then did themselves no favours on Monday evening when they were rolled over 4-2 by West Ham.

They are now just five points above the drop zone while Luton, in 18th, have a game in hand.

"It's hard for me to comment on these deductions. Somewhere, someone is sitting with a calculator and putting in points, taking away points," said Danish midfielder Norgaard.

"I don't know. It's people's jobs, people's lives they're messing with. I don't know what's going on, to be fair.

"We have to focus on us, not on Everton. I'm sure we will improve and I'm sure we will find ourselves safe in the Premier League when all is said and done. But there are things we have to talk about and improve.

"I think that's the right approach to have, otherwise you're relying on someone else's decisions. We have to improve, we have to do better and then we will be fine by the end of the season."

Brentford have the chance to bounce back when they host Chelsea in a west London derby next Saturday.

"In general, against the better teams we perform quite well and now we have to show it again," said German midfielder Vitaly Janelt.

"I can't remember the last time we lost against Chelsea so that's a good sign. Of course, we have to show a 10-out-of-10 performance, otherwise we'll end up like this again.

"We have to focus on ourselves, another week to train and then hopefully we get the three points at home against Chelsea."

Jarrod Bowen's maiden career hat-trick helped secure a first win in nine for the Hammers following a miserable start to the year.

Neal Maupay pulled one back before Bowen made it 3-1 and Emerson Palmieri hit a spectacular fourth prior to Yoane Wissa's late consolation.

"It was an incredible night - a win, my first hat-trick and a reaction we needed from recent weeks - so a really good night," said Bowen.

"We've got to build on this, it's one result that we've got to build on and keep winning games."
