Confirmed: Soweto derby tickets update

The Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday will be played in front of a capacity crowd.

SABC Sport has had it confirmed through Stadium Management SA that all tickets made available have been sold and there will be no tickets available going forward as the two sides face off in the DStv Premiership.

Kick-off for the match is at 3.3pm and the match will be broadcast live on SABC television and radio stations.

According to the breakdown of the ticket sales, the total number of tickets sold for the biggest game of the SA football calendar is 87079, which includes general access and then hospitality tickets on the day.

Security is expected to be tight as this marks the first time a match of this magnitude signifies a return to normal.

Pirates are the hosts, and media officer Thandi Merafe confirmed tickets will open from 12.30pm in what is the first Soweto Derby since the Covid-19 pandemic, the last one played where there were crowds was in March 2020, just a few weeks before the country went into hard lockdown to try curb the spread of the virus.

Speaking in Melrose, Johannesburg where Pirates launched an accommodation partner with Marriott Bonvoy she said there will be entertainment galore with several high profile artists booked to perform before the match and during halftime.

Pirates and Chiefs were fourth and fifth on the DStv Premiership table after 12 matches and before the midweek round of matches.
