Contract uncertainty looms for Lucas Hernandez as Bayern Munich delay talks

The much-anticipated contract extension for Lucas Hernandez at FC Bayern Munich are now in limbo.

Recent reports suggest that talks, which were believed to be in the final stages just a few weeks ago, have hit an unexpected snag.

Earlier this year, various media outlets hinted at an imminent agreement between the club and the French defender. The renewal of Hernandez's contract appeared to be a mere formality. However, a recent report from Kicker reveal a starkly different picture, indicating a lack of progress in recent weeks regarding the extension at Sabener Strabe.

According to insights shared by Kicker reporter Georg Holzner, the contract negotiations seem to be dragging on without any concrete developments.

Speculation is rife that the Bayern management might seek input from coach Thomas Tuchel before finalizing the deal. Squad planning for the upcoming season, including discussions about Hernandez, is reportedly on the agenda during a meeting with Tuchel in the near future.

The 27-year-old defender, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury during the World Cup in Qatar, is fervently working on his comeback.

Despite being under contract with FCB until 2024, the lack of progress in the extension talks raises the possibility of a transfer-free departure next summer if an agreement is not reached promptly ” a situation reminiscent of recent departures involving David Alaba and Niklas Sule.
