Dan Malesela laments poor results – ‘It’s not what we do’

Marumo Gallants coach Dan Malesela has said the two back-to-back losses in the Betway Premiership so far give the impression the club is in disarray.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa were hoping to pick up their first win of the season after defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on the opening weekend, but instead failed to take advantage – despite a dominant display – away to Golden Arrows.

After going down 2-0 to the KZN side on Saturday, Malesela was fuming.

"They disappoint me because it's not a reflection of what we do but like I said, anybody who's sitting somewhere, will just say 'Ahhh Marumo, there goes Dan again, it's not gonna be whatever'. It's not a reflection of what we do here, it's very disappointing," Malesela said.

Asked whether Gallants lacked firepower upfront, Malesela argued it wasn’t just the responsibility of forwards to score goals.

"Here's the difference, people always talk about a striker and a striker, what about these people who get chances? Because it cannot be the striker only who scores goals,” he added.

“Even when you have a Haaland [Erling] who can score as many goals as he does, there are other people who are scoring goals as well. You minus Haaland's goals, between the other players at Man City [Manchester City] there's a whole lot of goals. So, everybody must trouble themselves to score goals."

Malesela said to return empty-handed was puzzling.

"It's not representative of how we play, if you are going to tell somebody who was not watching the match, you are going to say to them, this is how it is and they won't believe you because they look at the score line.

“They will say, the score line is 2-0 and you are saying we were dominating the match and we had more chances and all of that, people won't believe you because of the score line. Like I said, I don't know if we are waiting for these wake-up calls for us to be able to want to win matches."
