The centre-back, like many others, faces uncertainty in the upcoming summer transfer window, as reported by Kicker. However, the Frenchman has now spoken out about his future.
When asked if he was considering a departure, Upamecano emphatically replied, "No, not at all." In an interview with Kicker, he elaborated, "I have a contract until 2026, feel comfortable - both at the club and with my teammates. I want to stay here at FC Bayern and continue to give my best."
The 25-year-old clarified that there have been no discussions with the club's management. "No, none," he asserted. And why would there be? Upamecano currently sees no reason to contemplate an early exit from Munich. He acknowledges that speculation is part and parcel of football, stating, "That's how football is." In the recent 8-1 victory over 1. FSV Mainz 05, Upamecano spent the entire game on the bench.
Despite his recent absence from the starting XI, Upamecano remains confident. While he enjoyed the trust of coach Thomas Tuchel for a significant part of the season, including crucial matches, the tide seems to have turned against him.
A red card coupled with a penalty resulting in a 0-1 loss to Lazio in the Champions League and a nearly identical scenario in the 2-3 defeat to Bochum, where he saw a second yellow card and conceded a penalty, led to his exclusion from the starting line-up.
Currently, Matthijs de Ligt and Eric Dier seem to be the preferred defensive pairing, as they have performed admirably in recent matches, giving Tuchel little reason to make changes.
