All eyes were on Old Trafford as the top-four hopefuls looked to kickstart their respective campaigns and it was Ange Postecoglou's side who roared out of the blocks and took an early lead through Brennan Johnson.
Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke completed a dominant 3-0 triumph after United captain Bruno Fernandes saw red late in the first half as Spurs racked up a fourth straight victory in all competitions.
It has been an impressive upturn after a shaky start to the campaign.
"That's how we need to play," Kulusevski said. "Our season started now
"Four wins in a row, the feeling is very good. A lot of happy players and it's showing on the pitch.
"It's the dream to play at Old Trafford, play like this. This is why I've done it. I'm so happy.
"As a kid you dream about playing in this stadium and playing like that."
Put to the Sweden international it felt like a big moment in Tottenham's season, he said: "Yeah, it was, for sure, but not just the result but playing like this.
"Our pressure first half was unbelievable. They couldn't get out the ball. We won it every time.
"We won 3-0 but if we were clinical we would win by more."
Spurs were as impressive as United were dreadful at Old Trafford, where Johnson rocked the hosts 155 seconds after kick-off following Micky van de Ven's brilliant run and cross.
The 23-year-old forward has scored in four straight matches since a below-par display against rivals Arsenal brought social media abuse, leading him deactivate his Instagram account.
"Unbelievable," Kulusevski said of Spurs teammate Johnson's display.
"But that's a good thing (he is off social media) because social media is overrated.
"So, he can focus on the right things, to play football. Four games, four goals is unbelievable.
"Today, he could score two, he hit the bar one time, but he's been doing really good, and he's a really good guy, young guy, and we need him.
"We need him to perform like this every game, and we're here to support it.
"I think it's so much that can weigh down on you as a player, because millions of people have opinions on you every day.
"But the important thing is to don't listen, and just to be with your family and trust in yourself and work hard, then nothing can stop you."
Asked if he has personally always been able to do that, Kulusevski said: "I think every player goes through it, and you just have to go through it because you just need to learn.
"Sometimes you're questioning everything, but you just have to forget and remember why you started and remember who you are and where you want to go. That's what I'm doing right now."
Spurs' attention turns to their Europa League trip to Ferencvaros on Thursday, when wounded United need a return to winning ways at Porto.
Sunday's performance was as alarming as the result, but under-fire Erik ten Hag said he was not worried about his future after the match.
Speculation over the United manager's future will dominate the build-up to the trip to Portugal, where the availability of two midfielders is in doubt.
Kobbie Mainoo went off with an apparent hamstring issue late in the first half, while a head injury saw Mason Mount withdrawn in the second period.
"I can't say in this moment," Ten Hag said of the pair's prognosis.
"I have to find out but, of course, when a player is coming off before half-time already, then there are some concerns.
"Also, I have seen how Mason came off. He was bleeding so it's clear there are some problems there and we have to see how they recover in the coming days."
