The 2022 WAFCON-winning coach was at Hoerskool Die Wilge in Potchefstroom to watch thNorth West University (NWU) clinch their spot in the Sasol League National Play-offs with a 2-0 win over Royal Queens.
Success in the Western Cape later this month will see another university team added to the South Africa women’s elite football league, which Ellies believes is a big possibility.
"We're going to the Western Cape on the weekend of the 21st [September] for that play-offs. There are still some games to be played, but when you look at the log, you can see they have a handsome lead – so possibly another university team, yes," said Ellis.
"Having been to the play-offs last year will also, hopefully the experience they gained will help them a little bit, and we could possibly have two university teams in the final.
"But there are so many teams looking to qualify, and it's just that the universities are using their resources for the betterment of the teams."
There are already five varsity teams in the Super League, and with NWU already in the play-offs, Kovsies FC (University of Free State), who face Ixias FC, and University of Cape Town – taking on Magic Ladies FC – could all vie for the two available promotion spots.
