Dillan Solomons: Kaizer Chiefs missing out on top-eight is unthinkable

Kaizer Chiefs not finishing inside the DStv Premiership top eight is unthinkable and something they refuse to entertain, according to defender Dillan Solomons.

Chiefs currently occupy 10th spot on the log and next face a struggling SuperSport United side at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane this evening.

Failure to pick up points again could see Amakhosi in danger of dropping lower down the table, but Solomons says a top-eight spot is a must.

"Obviously it would be drastic if Chiefs wouldn't make the top-eight, and possibly [record] the worst finish as a club – but we can't think about that," said Solomons.

"I can't think about negative things, I'm very positive. I'm someone that always remains positive and try to keep my mind in the right place, and just try to get the players in a good state of mind and to keep winning.

"Even if we're losing, we have to try and think that we're going to win the next [match], and that's just the type of person I am – I'm not someone who things negatively."

The biggest concern for Chiefs is their run of just one win in eight league matches in 2024 so far, with four losses – all of which have come in their last five outings.

Despite their poor form, the players continue talking about finishing in a CAF-inter club spot for next season, which would require them to finish inside the top three, where they currently trail by 10 points with only six games to go.

"But we can't focus on what other teams are doing or other results, we just have to focus on what we need to do, which is winning – and whatever happens, happens," he added.

"We can't blame other teams for not beating certain teams, and those types of things. No, we have to just keep doing what we're doing, and that's trying to win.

"It's part of the process, if we're not in CAF and we've won every single game from now on, what can we do? We [would have] tried our best and obviously we'll have to look back at the season and see where we lost certain points that led to our downfall.

"But we can't blame anyone else for not beating certain teams, it's all on us to try and get in that [third] position."
