The Belgian winger now leads the club's scoring charts with five goals, contributing to Sevilla's total of 12 in La Liga this season. Other scorers included Jesus Navas, Chidera Ejuke, Stanis Idumbo, and Juanlu Sanchez, with three goals coming from unfortunate own goals.
Lukebakio's performance marks a significant comeback, equalling his tally from last season over 27 matches. He is now chasing his personal best, having previously scored 14 goals for Fortuna Dusseldorf in the 2018-19 season.
Under the guidance of coach Garcia Pimienta, who identified Lukebakio's potential during pre-season, the player has found his groove after struggling with injury under Quique Sanchez Flores.
"He's a top-level player. I've been speaking with him for a while and told him he needs to be one of the best in the league in his position. His performance has been outstanding," remarked Pimienta after the match.
Victor Orta, Sevilla's sporting director, signed Lukebakio from Hertha BSC, and the player's contract runs until 2028. "He fits perfectly into Sevilla's attacking style, recovering the ball and exploiting space. His speed and ability to read the game are invaluable," Orta stated, highlighting the winger's versatility as a major asset for the team.
With Lukebakio leading the charge, Sevilla now sit just two points shy of European qualification, and his recent goals have been pivotal, adding six points from two victories.
As the club's offensive play revolves around him, Lukebakio has become an essential part of the squad and a key figure in the transfer market. Sevilla have found a new hero in Lukebakio, who continues to shine brightly this season.
