Dortmund goalkeeper Alexander Meyer admits huge shock at Edin Terzic resignation

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper admits he was shocked by the resignation of Edin Terzic, but confident of a good season for the club under new boss Nuri Sahin.

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper admits he was shocked by the resignation of Edin Terzic, whom he paid tribute to for his development as a footballer.

Terzic, 41, stunned the footballing world when he announced his decision to step aside as Dortmund boss after guiding them to the Champions League final where they were unlucky to lose to Real Madrid.

Nuri Sahin has now been appointed as Terzic's replacement. Sahin, 35, made over 230 appearances as a player for Dortmund and was assistant to Terzic prior to his departure and no doubt has big boots to fill.

Meyer, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Jahn Regensburg in 2022, is second-choice keeper at the club behind Gregor Kobel. Meyer made nine appearances for BvB last season

The 33-year-old shot-stopper is grateful for the teachings under Terzic but optimistic for the future under Sahin.

"I spoke with Edin on the phone and thanked him for the two years," Meyer said (via Ruhr Nachrichten). "He almost won the Bundesliga, almost won the Champions League final. I don't think he did much wrong. I simply thanked him because I was able to learn a lot, of course."

"We've known Nuri for six months now. But it's always different when you're assistant coach or head coach. He's coming in with a lot of energy. I think he is very happy that he has now moved into this position and that the club has placed its trust in him."

Sahin celebrated his first game as Borussia Dortmund head coach on Friday with a 7-1 win over the DEW-21 team. Alexander Meyer was on the pitch in the first-half, before being replaced by Marcel Lotka.
