Boss Jose Riveiro brought in Karim Kimvuidi, Phillip Ndlondlo, Thabang Monare, Thabiso Monyane, and Olisa Ndah in lieu of Kermit Erasmus, Miguel Timm, Monnapule Saleng, Bandile Shandu, and Tapelo Xoki.
Both teams, still recovering from their exits in the Carling Knockout over the weekend, generated numerous opportunities to find the net in the early stages of the match, yet goals eluded them.
The second half witnessed a decline in intensity, and a rather subdued ambiance prevailed, as few spectators braved the gloomy weather for the mid-week clash. Nevertheless, it must be acknowledged that the visiting team seemed content to play for a draw on their travels, displaying a measured approach.
Manager Riveiro rolled the dice one final time in search of a goal, introducing Katelgo Otladisa, Relebohile Mofokeng, and Vincent Pule in place of Evidence Makgopa, Kimvuidi, and Patrick Maswanganyi.
Mofokeng, in particular, played a pivotal role in engineering the opening goal. His swift one-two exchange neatly sliced open the Sekhukhune defense, affording Thabiso Monyane the opportunity to slot the ball past Badra Ali Sangare.
This victory propelled Orlando Pirates to the ninth spot in the league, amassing 12 points from nine games, edging one point ahead of Kaizer Chiefs, who have contested an additional match.
